Advanced course

What is an advanced course?

The specialized courses at technical colleges are established to provide more advanced specialized education on top of the five to five and a half years of education in the departments. Our school has two majors: the Maritime Systems Major, based on the Department of Merchant Marine, and the Production Systems Engineering Major, based on the Department of Information and Mechanical Systems Engineering.

Students who have completed the advanced course are recognized as equivalent to graduating from a four-year university, and can obtain a bachelor's degree. After graduation, you can not only get a job at a company but also go on to a graduate school master's course, and after that, you will be able to go on to a doctoral course.

 Maritime Systems Major

Although international shipping is extremely important to Japan, which relies on maritime transport for its overseas trade, the number of Japanese seafarers has been decreasing year by year, mainly for economic reasons, and currently there are only about 2,000 seafarers on ocean-going ships.

However, the need to secure Japanese seafarers as key staff in the new era with a view to ship management operations is widely acknowledged by both the public and private sectors.

There is a wide range of maritime-related fields that require education and experience as a maritime engineer, and there is strong training of advanced maritime engineers with flexible problem-solving abilities that can respond to various fields on top of solid maritime technology. It is desired.

In other words, future maritime engineers will have the ability to respond to a land-sea integrated ship operation management system centered on more advanced maritime technology as maritime technology advances, and many innovative things that are predicted in the future. Creative ability to understand technology and develop itself is also required.

This major is hoped for a new era of maritime engineers who have acquired the following abilities based on the maritime skills acquired in the main course (commercial ship department voyage course and engine course) and one year of large-scale training ship training. We will develop human resources who are rare.

  1. Advanced ability as an internationally accepted maritime engineer.
  2. Human qualities that can take correct leadership while acknowledging differences in nationality, culture, and customs.
  3. Problem-solving ability to correctly recognize the situation, clarify the problem, and solve it.
  4. Insight that can appropriately respond to environmental problems from the standpoint of a maritime engineer.
  5. Qualifications as a member of society who can voluntarily participate in solving various problems in the local community in which they actually live from a global perspective.

 Department of Production Systems Engineering

Research and development related to science and technology and engineering technology has brought about competitive development of production technology. The underlying discipline is highly subdivided or complex, seeking a wide range of interdisciplinary disciplines.Today's engineers are required to have proficiency in basic academic fields, their application abilities, collaborative abilities, as well as flexible thinking and creativity. Therefore, as an educational goal of this advanced course, we have set the basic philosophy of fostering flexible and humanistic R & D-type creative engineers.

This major builds on the fundamental engineering knowledge acquired in the undergraduate course (Information and Mechanical Systems Engineering), and provides students with knowledge of mechanical systems, electronics and physical properties, measurement and control, and information and communications-related fields.

    1. Education to improve R & D capabilities in specialized and multidisciplinary fields
    2. Education to develop creative production capabilities in specialized and multidisciplinary disciplines
    3. Education to improve communication skills in English

Is the three pillars of education. We aim to do the following as specific educational goals.

  1. Acquire basic knowledge and applied technology in each specialized field of engineering.
  2. Develop the ability to think about things from multiple perspectives and their background.
  3. Develop the ability to set implementation plans to solve engineering issues.
  4. Develop the ability to carry out plans, consider and explain engineering.
  5. Develop the ability to think about social contributions and responsibilities as an engineer.
  6. Develop logical writing skills, reading comprehension skills in foreign languages such as English, and communication skills.
