2025 marks the beginning of the “New Toba College of Maritime Technology” and marks the 150th anniversary of its founding, moving into a new phase of cultivating future human resources.

Toba National College of Maritime Technology (hereinafter referred to as "Toba National College of Maritime Technology") has positioned 2025 as the "first year of growth" in order to develop human resources with an eye to the next generation, and will launch the "New Toba National College of Maritime Technology."
Toba National College of Maritime Technology has always considered and practiced the ideal form of education with an eye to the future, but in recent years, the human resources required have become more sophisticated and complex due to rapid technological development. We are opening a new chapter in our efforts to provide advanced education and develop human resources that meet the needs of today.

① Establishment of the Advanced Information Engineering Course: Developing advanced digital talent to keep up with advances

The need for highly skilled IT professionals is increasing due to advances in advanced information technologies such as programming, generative AI, and cybersecurity, as well as increased demand due to digital transformation (DX).
However, in Japan, there is a severe shortage of such highly skilled IT professionals, and their development is an urgent issue. In light of this situation, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has launched a "Support Project for Strengthening Capabilities to Secure Highly Skilled IT Professionals" for universities and colleges of technology, and our school was selected as the first school to participate in this initiative.

In our Department of Information and Mechanical Systems Engineering, we have decided to establish a new "Advanced Information Engineering Course" (capacity 40 students) specializing in nurturing digital talent for students entering in April 60. We have also decided to reorganize the curriculum of the "General Engineering Course" (capacity XNUMX students), which allows students to learn a broad range of mechanical, electrical, and electronic engineering, for which there continues to be a demand.
With the establishment of the "Advanced Information Engineering Course," Toba National College of Maritime Technology will be able to send out into society highly skilled human resources specializing in the digital field who can meet the needs of the world.

Realizing "early admission guarantee and education before enrollment" Establishment of "Special selection for the development of advanced information engineers"

We have established a new entrance examination selection method called the "Special Selection for Developing Advanced Information Engineers" with the aim of early identification of talent with an interest in advanced science and technology and cultivating engineers who can demonstrate leadership skills after enrolling.
This selection process involves applicants giving presentations on how they solve problems and evaluating them based on a question-and-answer session. It is an advanced selection method that guarantees admission early and makes it possible to implement a systematic educational program even before enrollment.
The introduction of this method will open the door to more motivated and diverse applicants.

* Special Selection for Advanced Information Engineer Development (up to 20 students for Advanced Information Engineering course only)

Eligibility
● 2nd and 3rd year, 1st semester (first semester for first and second semester systems) School report: Total score of 9 subjects (on a 5-point scale) is 72 or higher
And a grade of 3 or higher in all subjects
- Have an interest in science, technology, international exchange, etc., and have a clear and appropriate motivation and reason for applying to the course
Those who are certain of their intention to enroll in our schoolExam Content (Interview: Includes explanation using slides and Q&A)
● Submit a slide explaining the system you have devised to solve the problem when applying.
During the interview, the slides will be explained, and questions will be asked about the student's sense of purpose, motivation to learn, and aptitude.*The selection method for 2026 is scheduled to change.
②The cutting-edge training ship "Shin Toba Maru," capable of autonomous navigation and remote control, goes into service

The fourth-generation Toba Maru will enter service in 2025. In addition to being equipped with a wheelhouse and engine room for practical training,

It also has an automatic navigation function, such as suggesting changes to the ship's route when danger is present.

It is also equipped with communication equipment that links the school and the ship in real time, making it possible to operate the ship remotely.
This cutting-edge ship will not only realize smart education during the navigation training and research voyages at Toba National College of Maritime Technology,

It will also be equipped with the latest facilities that will enable it to contribute to society and the local community through disaster relief efforts.

3. Deepening the curriculum: Utilizing the Shin Toba Maru to develop the next generation of maritime talent

In the Department of Merchant Marine, we have compulsory courses related to the STCW Convention (International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers).
In order to implement education that fully utilizes the new technology of Shintobamaru, the elective subjects for upperclassmen are
Optimize.
"Floating facilities" and "energy plants" are necessary to train engineers who can play an active role in the next generation of maritime industries.
We will offer subjects such as "Smart Ship" and "Marine Environment" and develop a course model that corresponds to the type of job students will have in the future.
Of these, the "Smart Ship" unit will allow students to take courses offered by the Department of Information and Mechanical Systems Engineering,
It is important to develop the next generation of maritime engineers who have knowledge and skills in generative AI and digital transformation and can promote digital transformation in the ocean and maritime fields.
You will be able to do it.
