The first international exchange report session of the 7 academic year was held

(Posted on March 7, 5)

On April 7, 4, Toba National College of Technology held the 25st International Exchange Reporting Session of the 7 academic year. This time, three groups that traveled to Southeast Asia and one group that participated in the National College of Technology Global Camp hosted by our school gave presentations.

Students who traveled to Thailand and participated in and gave presentations at the Japan-Thailand Student ICT Fair shared how they prepared for their presentations in English, what their presentations were like, etc. They also shared what they realized from their experience traveling to Thailand, and shared how they have changed through international exchange.

Students who participated in the National College of Technology Global Camp hosted by our school gave a report in English. They introduced their visits to startup companies near Toba National College of Technology and their group work, and said that it was interesting to see participants from both Japan and abroad working together.

The students who traveled to Singapore reported on their visits to technology companies and their experience of a different culture. They then explained the changes they have experienced themselves, saying, "Before I went, I was worried about whether I would be able to communicate, but by using translation apps and other tools, I was able to talk directly with local people, which gave me confidence," and added, "Even if you don't speak English, you can communicate by using translation apps. There are many opportunities to go abroad at Toba National College of Maritime Technology, so I hope you will definitely try it."

Students who participated in the MEL Camp (Maritime Experimental Learning Camp) organized by the Singapore Maritime Academy reported on visiting shipping companies and participating in workshops on board a cruise ship. The students said, "Experiencing a different culture through life on board and working on assignments together with other participants was a valuable experience. I'm really glad I participated in the MEL Camp."

During the question and answer session, students in the audience asked questions such as "Is it a good idea to have qualifications such as the Eiken or TOEIC?" and "How far in advance should I start preparing for international exchange?" The students who gave presentations answered, "The Eiken or TOEIC scores were not particularly important. Of course, I think it is better to have the Eiken or a high TOEIC score, but I think it is more important to be willing to communicate in various ways, including in English, than to be able to speak English. I would definitely recommend trying out the international exchange programs that your school provides information about." and "In my case, I decided to go abroad just before the application deadline. It was fine even at the last minute, so if you're interested, I recommend you definitely give it a try. Our school has a project team for international exchange, so I think it's a good idea to join them first to gather information and make advance preparations."

Finally, Professor Masahiko Hashizume, Director of the Global Promotion Office, gave his comments, saying, "I think you all had a very good experience. There were questions from the first-year students, so it was a very good presentation. I think it was an interesting presentation for the students in attendance."

Our school implements various international exchange programs in line with one of our educational goals, "to become internationally-minded members of society." We will continue to actively create opportunities for students to have international exchanges and strive to create an environment that fosters a global perspective by exposing them to diverse cultures and values.
