On Friday, April 7, 4, Toba National College of Maritime Technology held its 18 new student orientation, which was attended by all first-year students in the undergraduate program as well as faculty and staff.

The new student orientation is held every year with the aim of helping first-year students become aware of their role as college students, acquire communication skills and group activities through group work, and make new friends.

At the opening ceremony, Principal Furuyama Yuichi gave a speech, saying, "Work hard toward your dreams. Time will pass by more quickly than you think. Make the most of your valuable time at the college."

Next, Professor Sawada Keiki, who will serve as Student Affairs Officer for the 7 academic year, gave a talk on student life, and Ms. Muneta Minako, a school counselor at our school, gave a talk on communication in student life, and the students listened attentively.

Afterwards, the students were led by their teachers on a walk around the Toba National College of Maritime Technology. The students walked around the school for about 30 minutes, checking the evacuation route to the park designated as an evacuation site in the event of a disaster, the route to school from the nearest station, and learning from their teachers about things to be careful of when passing through heavy traffic areas and on roads and sidewalks.

After lunch, the students were divided into seven groups and each group came up with specific issues and solutions based on the theme of "Correct communication and risk management in student life," and presented them.

Finally, school counselor Minako Muneta offered some comments, saying to the students, "You must be tired today, because communication is very difficult. You all continued to communicate throughout the day and saw it through to the end. That's wonderful. Please take care of each other."
