Message from a senior (Part XNUMX)

XNUMXth year student, Department of Information Mechanical Systems Engineering

Q1

How did you find out about Toba Commercial Marine College of Technology before enrolling?

It all started when I was in the fifth grade of elementary school when my grandmother told me about the existence of Toba Commercial Marine Technical College.Around that time, I learned that there was a department where I could learn more about computers, which I had always been interested in, so I decided that I wanted to go to Toba National College of Technology.

Q2

Why did you decide to enter Toba National College of Technology?

I wanted to learn about information, mechanical, and electrical engineering fields in a well-balanced manner.I also wanted to try PBL activities since my first year.

Q3

Have you ever been surprised after entering the school?

There are many different kinds of people.I came from an elementary and junior high school with about 20 students per grade, so when I came to Toba National College of Technology, I was surprised by the number of students.By allowing us to interact with friends we have never met before, such as children whose hobby is trains, children whose hobby is electronic work, children whose hobby is tinkering with machines, children whose hobby is programming, and students who are international students, My sense of values has expanded greatly.

Q4

How did you become able to program?

Research what you're interested in until you're satisfied with it, and then try it yourself!I think this is because I have continued to do so.

Q5

What made you interested in system development and what made you fall in love with it?

In the winter of my first year, I heard about a system creation contest in my information engineering class, and I attended Professor Ezaki's kickoff.

Q6

Please tell us what you were most happy about in your school life so far.

When I was in my third year, I was able to advance to the finals for the first time at the National College of Technology Pro Competition, and I was happiest when I won the grand prize.

Q7

Please tell us what was the most difficult or frustrating thing about your school life so far.

The accuracy of the AI that I had created during my fourth-year technical college program, which uses a smartphone camera to identify plastic materials, did not improve as I had hoped.I tried to strengthen the AI by myself through trial and error, but the accuracy rate did not rise above 60%.

Q8

Please tell me about any interesting or recommended classes.

This is PBLXNUMX.The team created a system using the Arduino knowledge learned in information engineering.

Q9

Who is your recommended teacher?

This is Mr. Yoshioka.I can talk to her as casually as I would with her classmates, and I like that she talks about problems in daily life and other interesting things while thinking about the students.

Q10

・Please tell us what was good and bad about choosing the Department of Information, Mechanical and Systems Engineering.

The good thing about this program is that you can learn about full-fledged programming and information technology/electronics in a well-balanced manner from an early age, and there are many opportunities to participate in contests.Another bad thing is that there is less content to be learned in the five general liberal arts subjects than at other high schools, and there are times when I lack knowledge.

Q11

How did you decide which laboratory to belong to?

It all started when I was in the first year when I was told about the contest and was given guidance.I wanted to participate in various information-related contests, and I thought this laboratory would provide the best guidance.

Q12

What is the content of your graduation research?

We are creating an AI that can identify plastic materials using a smartphone camera. This is because I have applied for a patent for the device developed at DCON, and I wanted to improve the accuracy even more than before.

Q13

Please tell me why you chose employment as your career path.

This is because I wanted to gain practical experience from an early age, and I thought that I would be able to grow more by getting a job than going to higher education in areas where I was lacking.

Q14

Please give a message to students who are applying to Toba National College of Technology.

Please think about what you want to be in the future, even vaguely.I would also like them to participate in contests and research labs from their first year onwards to improve the resolution of their dreams.

Q15

What does Toba Merchant Marine mean to you?

It is a "passing point to make your dreams come true."
At Toba Merchant Marine, you can learn engineering professionally and put it to practical use by participating in contests and laboratories.I believe that by accumulating these experiences, your dreams will eventually come true.
